Farm Grown Art in Rappahannock County

Hughes River Farm and the Art Studio are located in Rappahannock County, Virginia. The Blue Ridge and Old Rag Mountain, a few miles to the west, challenge the ambitious hiker, and the Hughes River runs along the southern border of the farm. Canoeists find good sport here when the river runs high, and fishing is good even at low water.

Hans Wolfram Gerhard has restored the dilapidated working farm, the old house and outbuildings. The refurbished chickenhouse has become his art studio. Here he paints his mainly abstract paintings, carves wood into whimsical birds and beasts, and welds found metal objects into fantastic sculptures.

Hans has regularly participated in the annual Artists of Rappahannock Studio and Galleries Tour, and exhibited his work in galleries and public places of Washington, DC, as well as galleries of the region. His work is held in private and public collections in the United States and abroad. He currrently has some of his work on indefinite display in Washington, Va (Hazel River Art and Antiques). Hans welcomes visitors at his farm studio by appointment, and you can also follow him on Facebook and Instagram for his newest work.
